Ready to get started?
Can You Withdraw Money from Stash?
Yes, you are going to be able to pull money from your Stash account without any headache and without any hassle – regardless of the type of portfolio that you have.
You might have learned that there are multiple types of portfolios that Stash makes available for their members. Smart Portfolios, traditional portfolios, and a whole host of other options are available. All of them revolve around how active or how automated you want your trading to be.
Smart Portfolios and traditional portfolios can have accounts funded and withdrawn at any time you’d like.
You may be required to sell some of the investments that you are holding to fund those withdrawals.
How Do I Withdraw Money from Stash?
The withdrawal process with Stash is a pretty simple, straightforward, seven step process that you’ll get the hang of after the first few times.
You can withdrawal money from your Stash account regardless of whether or not you’re using the web interface on your computer or directly through the mobile app (available on Android and iOS devices).
Here’s how to start a withdrawal:
- After logging into your Stash account you need to be sure that you have turned the “Auto Stash” setting off of your Smart Portfolio. If you don’t, the withdrawal process is going to take all lot longer – and may even be denied outright
- Next, click the TRANSFER option on the web app or mobile device
- Choose the portfolio that you want to transfer money FROM
- Choose the payment method that you want to withdrawal your money TO
- Then enter the amount of money that you want to withdrawal/transfer
- Now you need to click either the CONFIRM (web app) or CONTINUE (mobile app) button
- Finalize your transfer by clicking MAKE TRANSFER (web app) or TRANSFER) mobile app
And there you have it – that’s all it really takes to get the job done!
How Long Will It Take for My Withdraw to Process?
As far as a long it’s going to take for your withdrawal to process, you can expect to see the funds that you have transferred land in your account anywhere from a few minutes after the withdrawal has been initiated to 72 hours afterwards.
A lot of this depends on activity through Stash, the amount of money that you are withdrawing, the amount of money you had in your account or the assets you had to sell to cover the withdrawal, as well as the type of payment method you’ve selected to accept your withdrawal from.
When you get right down to it, though, the overwhelming majority of Stash withdrawals are going to happen almost instantly. You should (on average) see your money land in your account within a few hours most of the time – if not faster.
If you have initiated a withdrawal and you haven’t seen the money hit your account for a couple of days it’s not a bad idea to reach out to Stash customer service and see what’s going on.
They’ll be able to clear up why the delay has happened, where the money is, and when the money should land in your account. They may even be able to help execute your transfer a little faster, too.
What Causes Stash Withdraw Delays?
We mentioned earlier that there are a couple of things that can cause Stash withdrawals to become delayed.
The time that you execute your Stash withdraw can have a big impact on how quickly it is executed, particularly if you’re trying to execute your withdrawal during the same time that Stash is executing trades.
If a lot of people are executing withdrawals you may be delayed as well!
The biggest influence behind a delay, though, is when you try and deposit new funds into your account while a withdrawal is initiating.
It’s not at all uncommon for this kind of activity (money going in the same time money is coming out) to not only cause a delay to your withdrawal, but to cause a delay to your deposit as well.
Actual transfers can depend somewhat on market fluctuations as well, and there may even be situations where withdrawal requests are rejected and have to be reinitiated all over again.
Just know that you’ll almost always get a notification from the folks at Stash if something has gone sideways with your withdrawal request. There let you know what’s wrong, how to remedy the situation, and how to expedite your withdrawal request.
Closing Thoughts
So there you have it – the overwhelming majority of Stash withdrawals are going to be initiated just as quickly as they are requested. It may take up to 72 hours for you to see the funds reach your payment method of choice, though.
If your Stash withdrawal has been pending for longer than 72 hours, though, it’s probably time to reach out to customer service and support to see if they can figure out what’s going on.
Don’t be surprised if they help you iron out the kinks and get that cash into your account ASAP, though!
