Side hustles create more millionaires and entrepreneurs than you can imagine. Many people don’t want to put in the work though. One common question that’s asked is whether or not a side hustle can be automated.
In this blog post we will go over the answer to this questions along with other factors you may find interesting.
What is Considered a Side Hustle?
Before we get started, it’s important to understand what a side hustle really is. A side hustle refers to any type of income-generating activity that you do in addition to your day job or regular work obligations.
There are many different types of side hustles out there, ranging from traditional jobs like consulting and freelance writing, to more creative pursuits like online marketing and product development.
The key thing to remember is that a side hustle is anything that you do to make extra money, outside of your normal job or career.
Answer To The Question Can You Automate Your Side Hustle:
Now that we’ve defined what a side hustle is, let’s answer the question: can you automate a side hustle? The short answer is yes, there are many different ways to automate your side hustles.
The side hustle has to be one that you can systematize, which means it can be converted into a process or a series of repeatable steps. In the rest of this blog post we will go over all of the side hustles you could possibly automate along with the tools you need to get started.
Freelance Writing
If you’re a freelance writer, you may think you have to write every single blog post. While this may be true at first, over time you may be able to automate the process.
You may be wondering how to automate freelance writing. The way you do this is by becoming so good at it that you’re able to charge a premium price. Once you reach this level, you can easily outsource the writing to a team of freelance writers who will do the work for you.
So for example, if you get to the point where you can charge $100 per 1000 words. You can outsource the content for $30-$40 per 1000 words and in result make a hefty profit.
One Thing You May Want To Consider
Although you can automate the process after a little while, you should still write some of the blog posts yourself in order to make more money in the long run.
Also, it’s not 100% automated, because you have to still look at the content. Even if you really trust the writers, it’s important to always give the content a once-over before sending it over to the client.
Blogging Business
The second side hustle that you can possibly automate is blogging. This is because blogging can easily be systematized into a process. You can start by creating an editorial calendar and assigning tasks to different team members.
For example, you can have someone responsible for writing the blog post, someone responsible for creating graphics, and someone responsible for editing and posting the blog post.
This may take a while to make a lot of money, just because starting a website takes time to get some traffic and followers. It can take up to a year for a new blog to start making significant money. But once you reach that point, it’s easy to automate the entire process by creating a few templates and guidelines for your team members.
Things To Consider
You may want to consider not automating everything right off the bat. This is because you want to learn the business in order to get so good at it, so that you can eventually teach all the team members the right way to do things.
It’s important that you understand the business and how it works before you try to automate it, otherwise you may make some mistakes that could cost you a lot of money and wasted time.
If you hustle yourself and start making a good income through blogging, you can now use the money to outsource the tasks and eventually automate your entire process.
Some things you need to learn are SEO, how to format a blog post, how to research topics, and how to write engaging content.
This is the side hustle I personally chose (as you can tell). I got started by taking a course by Morten Storgaard. In the course he goes over the intricacies of blogging and how you can make a full-time income from it.
YouTube Business
The next side hustle you could possibly automate is starting a YouTube channel. This is similar to blogging, but instead of writing blog posts, you would be creating videos.
The process of starting a YouTube channel can be automated by batching the video creation process. This means that you would film all of the videos for a month in one day, and then spend the rest of the month editing and uploading the videos.
This can be a bit more challenging to automate, but it is definitely possible. You can outsource the video editing to someone on a freelancing site like Fiverr, and then you would just have to upload the videos yourself.
To make things even easier, you can use a tool like TubeBuddy to help with optimization and ranking your videos in YouTube’s search algorithm.
Things To Consider
Just like freelance writing, and blogging, you need to be good at YouTube in order to make a lot of money from it. This means that you should learn about SEO for YouTube, how to film and edit videos, and how to create engaging content.
Once you learn all these things, you will then know what it takes in order to automate the process and delegate tasks to other team members.
Instagram Niche Page
Our last side hustle that can be automated is starting an Instagram niche page. This is a bit different from the other side hustles, because it doesn’t require you to create any content yourself.
Instead, you would be curating content from other people in your niche, and posting it on your page. For example, if you are in the fitness niche, you would find and repost pictures or videos of people working out at the gym.
This is one of the easiest side hustles to automate because all you have to do is find someone that can create graphics for your page (i.e. a graphic designer) and then give them some general guidelines on what kind of content you want to post.
You can also use a tool like Later to help you schedule and automate your posts. This way, you can set it up so that your page is posting content even when you’re asleep!
Things You Need To Consider
Learning the Instagram algorithm is important if you want your niche page to be successful. This means that you will need to learn how to grow your followers organically, and how to create engaging content.
You may also want to consider learning about social media marketing and the different strategies that can help you get more reach on Instagram.
How Do You Make Money With This Process?
You can make money in multiple ways with this process. You can post shoutouts for other pages, get brand deals, make money with affiliate marketing, and even sell products on your page.
The sky is the limit when it comes to making money with an Instagram niche page, and once you get the process down, it can be completely automated!
Once you get to 100’s of thousands of followers you can really make a lot of money without much effort other than answering messages.
Mindset You Need To Have
Conclusion
We hope this blog post helped you learn about automating certain side hustle. The thing is it’s unwise to automate the side hustle right off the bat.
Instead, you should learn the ropes of your chosen side hustle and gradually automate it over time by learning more skills and refining your process. With patience and dedication, you too can automate your side hustle and start making passive income on a regular basis!
