Are You Able To Use Craigslist For Affiliate Marketing?

When it comes to affiliate marketing, there are more than one ways to cook an egg. In other words, there are a lot of different ways you could become successful.

So when you think of different online platforms, you often think about whether or not it could work within your affiliate marketing strategy. So how about Craigslist? Is it possible to make money through Craigslist as an affiliate marketer?

The answer is yes, it’s possible. However, it’s not necessarily the best way to do so. This is because Craigslist is more geared towards local advertising, rather than national or international marketing. Another reason is because you can’t post affiliate links directly within Craigslist as it could get you banned.

Below we will go over how it’s possible, but analyse whether or not you should do it.

Can You Be Successful With Affiliate Marketing On Craigslist?

The trick is to post an ad where people may be interested in your affiliate product. From there, since you can’t post affiliate links on Craigslist, you need to direct them to your website, PDF, or to sign up to your email list to get to the offer.

Why you Shouldn’t Waste Your Time

This isn’t really a great business model, and I’m going to go over why. First off, Craigslist doesn’t like posting a lot of different Ads, as you’re limited to 15 per day. Since it’s a local platform, if you want to reach a big audience, you would have to post in multiple cities, which is not only time-consuming but could also get your account flagged.

You can also get flagged for posting the same ad repeatedly, so unless you want to rephrase and constantly change your ad, it’s not a great option.

Additionally, Craigslist isn’t really known for people wanting to purchase products or services. It’s more for finding local jobs, selling items, or finding housing. So the audience may not be as interested in purchasing an affiliate product.

Should You Use Craigslist As an Affiliate Marketer?

Due to the amount of time it’ll take to post ads, the limited reach in audience, and the fact that it’s not really a platform for purchases, it’s not really worth using Craigslist as an affiliate marketer.

There are many other things you should do as an affiliate marketer that you could spend your time on. This includes:

  • Creating Youtube Videos
  • Creating Blog Posts and SEO Optimization
  • Utilizing Social Media Platforms
  • Email Marketing

These methods are much more worth your time, and I’ll tell you why. For the first two, creating videos and blog posts, these methods have the ability to last for several years. The more you post them, the more traffic you’ll tend to get over the years. With extra traffic comes extra income.

Utilizing social media will allow you to get some additional traffic to the content you create, and also potentially reach a larger audience.

Last but not least, the people you get on your email list are probably the most targeted demographic you could get, as they are the ones who actively want to hear about your affiliate offers.

Does Craigslist Have an Affiliate Program?

Craigslist doesn’t have an affiliate program, and it really doesn’t have the business model to have an affiliate program.

Craiglist is really just a middle man for people to buy and sell products and services locally. They don’t have their own products or services to promote, so it wouldn’t make sense for them to have an affiliate program.

Conclusion

So just because it is possible to make affiliate sales on Craigslist, it doesn’t make it a good platform to use as an affiliate marketer.

You should use your time for the more efficient methods that we listed above. There’s no shortcut for being successful in affiliate marketing, so don’t waste your time on Craigslist.
